How to Use This Site

O&P iQ consolidates both peer-reviewed journal articles and AAOP resources relevant to orthotics and prosthetics. The sites pulls in new articles a few times a week using RSS Feeds. Currently, O&P iQ follows RSS Feeds for a custom PubMed search and a collection of O&P-relevant journals, including the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Prosthetics and Orthotics International, and the Canadian Prosthetics & Orthotics Journal. O&P iQ is designed to make it easier and faster to get to O&P-relevant literature. While the database should not be cited in formal literature reviews, it is a tool for transferring knowledge from research to clinical practice.

How to Search

You can search O&P iQ in two ways:

1. Search bar

O&P iQ has a simple search function that works best with 1-3 broad keywords. The search function does not use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT). Our goal is to improve this function in the future.

2. Blue person

The blue person is broken up into different segments (see bottom of page for list of body segments).

Hover your mouse over the blue person to select Prostheses or Orthoses. You can then select a broad body segment (ie Lower Limb Prostheses), or click into that segment for more specificity (ie Transtibial Prostheses). The blue person can be used on its own, or in conjunction with the search bar.

Filter Your Search

Each resource page contains the following:

  1. Sort by Relevance or Date of Publication (most recent first)
  2. Filter by “Title must contain terms”
  3. Filter by Category of Evidence
    1. Systematic reviews; Meta-Analyses; Clinical Practice Guidelines; Summaries of Systematic Reviews (CKS)
    2. Scoping Reviews; Clinically Appraised Topics (CATs)
    3. Experimental Clinical Research
    4. Quasi-experimental and Exploratory Research; Bench/Developmental Research
    5. Descriptive Research; Qualitative Research; Consensus Research
    6. Case Report and Case Series
    7. Expert opinion and Narrative Reviews
